Submission for consideration to address speed limit controls in the Village of Ballycanew.

Speed Limit Signs should be moved out on all approach roads:

As we are all aware, traffic volumes have increased over the past number of year.  We here in the village, have noticed this, one of the many problems is the increase in HGV’s going through the village.

At present traffic is diverting through Ballycanew because of the tailbacks being faced in Enniscorthy, I understand that this is a solution hoping to be fixed in the next few years with the bypass going ahead.

However, we feel that the speed limit signs should be moved

  • ToFox’s on Gorey side of the village, as we have a primary school just meters away from where they are presently located.  Speed going through the village is a problem, with people constantly passing out at the Village Gate as they are heading towards the Gorey Direction.  It appears that as soon as they see the limits they feel they can speed up.

  • Out to Coolock on the Killanagh road.  At present, the speed signs are located on the far side of the bridge on the Killanagh road and are a hazard to all, including pedestrians.  This is felt in the wider area, that is far too fast on such a narrow bridge, where a River Park area is regurlay being visited by members of the Community.  The Lack of Footpaths and Street Lighting on this road, also adds to the dangers of using the road.

  •  Another matter the speed limit signs are constantly being turned on the Wexford side of the Village indicating that the road is not wide enough here.
