Ballycanew Ballyoughter Development Association

PPN MEETINGS:
We are still attending our group PPN meetings. At present 15 groups out 87 are attending meetings to date. The Development Association are the only group represented by Ballycanew. The latest Meeting showed the lack of communication between the local Municipal District Council and the local groups, which all present felt was something which needed to be worked on.
Garda Vetting:
All members of the Association have signed up to be garda vetted, and all have passed.
Amenity Grant (Chess Table)
The Current Amenity grant from the council was €400 which was presented at a ceremony in the District office. Aislinn Dunne was present to collect of behalf of the Development Association. We have now installed the Chess table at a cost of €805. Gorey Stone Art were the suppliers of the chess table, and pieces (chess & Draughts) are available from Phil in Goslins.
Ballyoughter Road Issue:
The Development Association are currently meeting with Anthoney Donohue and the District Council on this matter. A walk around has been completed, and we are assured that the road is currenly being monitored, and several requests for repair have been submitted to BANN for them to address.
Ballyoughter Sign:
The Ditch has currently been rebuilt at the Welcome to Ballyoughter sign, and during the year will fill in, with the hope of the hedging planted.
CCTV Grant:
Surveys have now been returned. At present 113 out of 400 Survey's have been received back . Our data will now be colated and reviewed.
Tourism Project:
The Development Association are creating a tourism map of the Surrounding area of Ballycanew, leading to Ferns tying into 1798 and the finding of a Danish Fort, and urn from the Bronze Age in Ballycanew. This could also bring in Ballymore house and on to the fr. Murphy Centre. This would allow visitors to take advantage of the Shops, Pubs, Caravan Parks in the area. We are in the process of creating a cartoon map of the area, highlighting the historic points of the village. The main route to Ferns was via Ballycanew. The COI Church is dated from around 1604. 2 Mills were present in the area and Fr. Michael Murphy was parish priest in Ballycanew at the time of his death.
Funding to date:
The Association has currently applied for funding through the Creative Ireland Grants for our Tourism Funding. Also Funding has been applied from Wexford County Council. The Communities Facilities Scheme Grant.
